HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation Kyrgyzstan

Background

HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation is one of the most experienced and largest development organizations in Switzerland. It came into existence on 1 July 2011 through the merger of two organizations: Helvetas (founded in 1955) and Intercooperation (founded in 1982).

HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation is involved in every area that has an impact on people’s livelihoods - water, food and the environment, as well as bridges and roads. Through educational programmes and building democracy, HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation enables disadvantaged people to actively determine and improve their living conditions.

In Kyrgyzstan, Helvetas started its activities in November 1994 with the Agroproject — restructured as the Kyrgyz-Swiss Agricultural Programme (KSAP), operating in close cooperation with the Kyrgyz Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources. At present time HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation runs 6 projects: STAR, SEP, LMD, BCP, TASK, CBT.
  • HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation has a globally valid vision and mission which guides all its actions. Focusing on the peculiar context of a transition country such as Kyrgyzstan, the country team has developed a specific vision of its work to communicate it to the Government and donors. The vision sees a clearly defined direction of our Kyrgyz programme in the coming five years, building on our particular expertise and experience. To achieve the above stated vision and act according to our mission, all team members subscribe to the following institutional values:

    • We strive for a balance between economic, environmental and social concerns.
    • Our commitment is based on an attitude of solidarity and partnership
    • We respect the cultural values of our partners and conversely expect respect for our own fundamental values.
    • We act on the basis of fundamental and human rights and support the right to self-determined development.
    • We are committed to social justice, gender equality as well as equal rights of all human beings, regardless of age, origin, language, religion, culture, sexual orientation and socio-political beliefs.
